News & Announcements

Thank you to everyone who came out to Food Truck Night.  Marina Football Boosters earned $181.00.  There was variety of food like a Taco Trio (chicken, beef and pork in soft corn tortillas) that my family tried and loved along with french fries with beef, cheddar and goat cheese plus cilantro which was incredible.  There were large sausage dogs, gourmet hot dogs and the biggest corn dogs I've ever seen.  One of the trucks served California Rolls which looked beautiful and were served with little umbrellas - very cute!
If you haven't been out to one of the Food Truck Nights, they are every Wednesday from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.  There are different trucks that come each time.  Football will be hosting another one next Wednesday too.
Don't be shy; come on out and give it a try!
REMINDER:  See's Candy orders will be delivered to your player this Friday after practice at 1pm Room 416.

I could still use two more parents to help out on Thursday at 4:30pm to sort the orders and put them in bags.  Let me know if you can come.  We are meeting in Room 416.
Thanks again everyone,
Denise Hernandez, MFBC - Pres.
Good Monday Viking Families - Let me start by congratulating the 32 families that sold See's Candy for the team.  You guys did an awesome job an raised nearly $1,700.00.
Here are the final numbers: Total Sales $5,056.33; Total paid out to See's $3,516.05; Net for MFBC $1,540.28 + $149.43 refund check (Additional $'s received from See's for exceeding $2,000.00 in sales) = $1,689.71
If you remember our goal was $2500.00.  We fell short of our goal due to less than half of the team participating.  :( sad Yes, less than half.  We have 60-70 players expecting to play football in the Fall.  Players can't just show up on the field expecting there to be coaches, equipment, dinners for players, game films, uniforms, etc.  It's not going to happen when half the team is shrugging it off like selling for their team doesn't mean anything.  It means everything!  I can only provide the means to get these things; you are ALL going to have to help to get us there.
At our booster meetings we have discussed getting soft helmets for passing league, but we have to meet our fixed costs before we can even think about buying additional equipment.  Other teams have them, but we do not because we do not have the full support of our families.  We are part of the team too!  I applaud those families who are involved and trying to meet our goals.  The team is lucky to have you, but we need ALL of you.  Some may say they don't have time or money,  I say you have time for what's important to you.  Your son thinks it's important, or he wouldn't be spending 5 days a week lifting and working out and then studying his plays on the weekend.  Believe me it's important.  I certainly don't expect each parent to buy 10 items each time either.  What I do expect is the parent and player together to make an effort to ask neighbors, family, friends and co-workers.  Not everyone says 'yes', but not everyone says 'no' either.  We ALL need to make the effort for our kids, for our players, for our team because it's important.
Moving Forward

What's for dinner Wednesday night? Marina Football Booster Club has the answer.  It's Food Truck Night this Wednesday, 03/28/12 5:30pm-8:30pm.  What does this mean?  This means no cooking Wednesday night!  There will be several food trucks preparing different kinds of food.  You can try different foods from each.  The Football Booster Club earns a percentage of each food purchase.   There will tables and chairs for families to enjoy there meal.  It's a great excuse to get the family to sit down and have dinner together for a change.   This is for anyone to come and enjoy so spread the word.  Everyone's gotta eat right?!
When will the See's Candy orders be in? The orders will be ready to be picked up this Friday, 03/30/12.  You or your player can come by Room 419 after practice.
Do you need help putting the See's orders together? Why yes, thank you for asking.  I need 4 parents to help put the orders together.  It will be very easy like following your shopping list only everything on it will be chocolate!  We'll meet in Room 419 at 4:30pm and should be done within an hour/hour and a half.  Call or email me if you can make it.
See you for dinner Wednesday Night,
Denise Hernandez, MFBC - Pres.

Hey Viking Families -

Car Wash

What a gorgeous day for a car wash!  We collected $2,211.00 in presale tickets and an additional $525.00 in car wash sales and tips on Saturday.  With Snack Bar and Merchandise Sales of $97.00 and $145.00 respectively or grand total for the Car Wash came out to $2,958.65 ($19.35 was used to purchase additional soap).  Three cheers for Marina Football!  We were only $41.35 short of our goal of $3,000.00.  What an effort made by all!
I estimate the players washed nearly 200 cars on Saturday.  From 8am-1pm the cars just kept coming.  The boys worked hard, but their efforts helped to reach our first fundraising goal.  The success of this car wash was not only the team work of the players, but the parents as well.  Thank you for all the water, soda and food donations.  We treated the players when they were done with their shift with a drink and snack.

Coach Pascoe and our VP Luis Armenta joined the players in washing those 200 cars while Tammie Chaffins and her daughter waved signs to flag down cars, and Chelsie Coffman, Lynn Gordon, Gracie Kimball and Maria Armenta manned the concessions.  Lynn Gordon made sure we had plenty of dry towels by hanging them to dry.  Les and Val Wannall took pictures of the day.  And last but certainly not least, Coaches Sweet, McLawyer, Huber, Spindler, Falkenstein, and Bonsall were there helping to keep the line moving along.  Thank you Coaches for leading our players on and off the field.  Thank you to everyone who had a part in our success.  The Viking Football Program is the winner here!

Booster Meeting

I'd like to invite everyone to come to our monthly Booster meeting this Tuesday evening 03/13/12 at 7pm in the cafeteria or library.  We will be making plans for our Golf Tournament on July 16 and hearing updates from each of our Board members.  Come see what's going on and how you can be a part of this year's Viking Voyage.

What's next?

Monday, 03/12/12, we will be kicking off our See's Candy Fundraiser with yummy chocolate eggs and some of your favorites like toffee and nuts and chews!  This will run this week and end next week.  The last day to turn in will be Thursday, 03/22/12 in order to have them in time for Easter.  This is an easy fundraiser because See's Candy sells itself.  If each player sells a minimum of 10 items, we estimate a return of $2,500.00.  I am really excited about this fundraiser, and can't wait to place my order!  Who can say no to chocolate!  Good luck everyone!  Hopefully we can exceed or goal this time with everyone's participation.
I've attached a copy of the flyer (to the email sent on 3 11 2012) in case it doesn't make it home.  Please have checks made payble to "Marina Football Booster Club" or "MFBC".

Thanks again to everyone. Let's keep the ball rolling!

EXTRA! EXTRA! Marina Football Car Wash+ Important FB Updates
Hello Viking Families - We had our February Booster Meeting on the 15th and I'd like to share some of the highlights with you.
1) We are having our first car wash at Marina High on Saturday, Mar 10.
Those players who are currently in football will receive an envelope on Tues, Feb 21st of 10 car wash tickets to pre-sell for $5.00 each.
The first 7 players to sell all their tickets and turn in their $50.00 to Coach Pascoe will be exempt from working the car wash. All others will have the fun job of soaping, rinsing and drying the cars and trucks.  It will be a fun day for all.
Our goal is to raise $3,000.00 with this event.  That means everyone needs to sell all their tickets.
(If you are playing another sport now, but would like to help us out please see Coach Pascoe for your tickets or better yet buy a ticket or two from one of your teammates.)
Everyone's efforts to support this event is definitely needed and appreciated.
Where does the money go? Funds go toward football equipment and uniforms, as well as, coaches' salaries.  These are big ticket items, but once we earn money to pay out these expenses we would like to continue raising money for new bleachers at our Marina Football Field.  We currently have $7,500 earmarked for them; however, this is a HUGE ticket item at over $100,000.00.  So if you wonder "why the fundraisers ?", now you know.  If you know of a business in our community that you think would be interested in helping us reach our goal, you will soon be able to download our donation form from our www.marinafootball.com website.  Our website is currently under construction, but please keep checking back.  In the meantime our Non-profit Tax ID# is 93-0977282.  (We will soon have a merchandise link as well!)

Long live the Vikings, HAIL MARINA HIGH!
Denise Hernandez, MFBC - Pres.

Hello Vikings!
Last Thursday (February 2nd) was Marina's Expo night for parents and new students interested in attending Marina High.  Let me tell you, we had hundreds people interested in the Home of the Vikings!  The bleachers in the gym were filled with families wanting to know more about what Marina has to offer.  We had nearly forty incoming freshman athletes interested in Marina Football for the 2012 season this fall.  The buzz about football was incredible at our table.
The new Freshman Coach Andy Bonsall and Head Football Coach Pascoe were on hand to talk to the families and tour the weight room.  Your Executive Booster Board was there to greet families, answer questions, hand out stickers and waters, and more importantly inform them about our Freshman Summer Camp and Weight/Speed Training for 6th, 7th, & 8th graders.
If you know an incoming freshman that is interested in football that was not able to make it to Marina's Expo last night, please contact me for an information sheet about the Summer Camp for incoming freshman.
Coach Pascoe and his staff are also providing weight and speed training for 6th, 7th, & 8th graders on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 5pm-6:15pm.  The cost is only $5 per session and is for junior high athletes playing any kind of sport.
Again, if you know someone in junior high who could benefit from this type of training have them meet at the weight room with their parent to sign the permission form, bring $5 and get started.  This program just started last week and Coach already has 12 athletes training with him.
Now, I know that none of us are freshman any more and we want info on what we are doing, right?
Your Booster Board along with Coach Pascoe are in the process of confirming dates and updating our football website; however, I do have a few important dates to share with you:
  • 05/07/12 - Spring Football Starts:  M-TH 2:30pm-5pm, Fri Weight Room
  • 06/01/12 - Spring Game @ Westminster HS:  6:00pm Alumni Game 7/7 & 6:45pm Game
  • 06/25/12 - Summer Football: Monday -Thursday
  • 07/06-07/07/12 - Surf City Challenge (Passing League) @ Marina HS 07/06/11 JV 1pm-7pm & 07/07/11 Varsity 9am-5pm
  • 07/16/12 - Golf Tournament at Sea Cliff
This is a brief outline of what is in store for us this football season.  This is meant to help in planning your vacations, so we can have all the players back in time for Summer Football!
If we are going to be competative in the Sunset League, we will need a commitment from every player to be at practice everyday without exception.  This is the type of dedication required of a first class organization.  This is how we become a strong team, and we truly need everyone there.
We will only have two weeks to prepare for the Surf City Challenge (scrimmage style games), and we can't do it without every player. As a JV and Varsity player, we need each athlete's committment and dedication everyday.  As a parent, your help is needed to support the program in a positive way by encouraging your player to come to practice every day even when it gets tough.
Training for football is tough and we need our players to be tough.  These are the days when our boys become men and our men get stronger!  We definitely want Marina Football to be strong!
Please continue to check our website for updates.  We will do our best to keep it updated so you will have access to the most up-to-date information.  It's currently being changed over to a new format and is only about 20% complete, so please be patient.  It already looks great and we have so much more to add!  Our Marina Vikings Football website is www.marinafootball.com .
The Viking Nation is coming together.
Long live Marina Football!
Denise Hernandez, MFBC - Pres.
